Santa Memories

On the left is Me and Santa....and on the right (sitting on the outside) is Andy! I often look at these two photos and think....Who knew that these two little kids would meet some day...(one grew up in the East...one the West) and fall in love ?????? It's amazing! That is the reason why I LOVE these two Christmas photos....

Bless the Birds.........

Trim a tree in your yard with edible decorations to help the birds celebrate the season.
Spread peanut butter on pinecones, roll in birdseed, and hang from a tree branch...or slice oranges and tie slices on branches with brightly colored waterproof ribbon...and of course..don't forget to decorate the trees with strings of cranberries and popcorn...the birdies will LOVE you!

QUILTS........

I promised Lisa a long time ago that I would post some of my quilts....here they are! I am embarrassed to say that they are not finished yet!!! I did these quite awhile ago....and they have been sitting all wrapped up in tissue in a big basket in the closet! This is one of the Christmas quilts....the quilts below are "Jacob's Ladder"..."Purple Quilt"...and some Christmas squares that I haven't stitched together yet....I wonder if I will ever get these done! The purple quilt is still safety pinned together ....in case you are wondering what all those pins are????? Maybe one of these days I will just make up my mind and finish them!

ART...FINALLY!!!!!!!

Finally! I finished this theme card for my Creative Journeys Group. This is the 4 of Diamonds...theme is (to use a photograph that we have taken...or like)...I chose this photograph of my parents in the 40's....I love the clothes they are wearing....especially my Mom's hat and shoes....I have 2 more theme cards to do....then I'm caught up....
I've been doing lots of puttering around the house...brought in lots of my outdoor plants for the Winter...which is defintely here today! It's been raining and windy....and cold! It is snowing right up the road from us...I do have a nice fire in the fireplace...and it's been perfect to bake cookies and work on some art...I'm getting ready to start on a few sewing projects....(Christmas surprises)!

Festive Fruited White Chip Blondies

I decided to bake this new recipe that I found! It was well worth it! Because they are delicious!

(I always use BUTTER in my cookies)
1 2/3 cups (10oz. package) white chocolate chips, divided
2 eggs
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 1/4 cups flour
1/3 cup orange juice
3/4 cup cranberries, chopped
1/4 cup chopped dried apricots
1/2 cup coarsely chopped nuts
1/4 cup light brown sugar
Heat oven to 325. Grease and flour 9-inch square pan.
Melt butter in med. saucepan; stir in 1 cup white chips. Beat eggs in large bowl until foamy. Add granulated sugar; beat until thick and pale yellow in color. Add flour, orange juice and white chip mixture; beat just until combined. Spread 1/2 of batter, (about 1 1/4 cups), into prepared pan.
Bake 15 min. or until edges are lightly browned; remove from oven.
Stir cranberries, apricots and remaining 2/3 cup white chips into remaining 1/2 of batter; spread over top of hot baked mixture. Stir together nuts and brown sugar; sprinkle over top.
Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until edges are light brown. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars. or diamonds. Makes about 16 bars.

Have a Whale of a Time this Thanksgiving Week......

A friend sent me this story, and I want to share it with all of you for Thanksgiving.
If you read the front page of the SF Chronicle, you would have read about a female humpback whale who had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines.

She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth.

A fisherman spotted her just east of the Farralone Islands (outside the Golden Gate) and radioed an environmental group for help.

Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so bad off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her
-a very dangerous proposition.
One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer.

They worked for hours with curved knifes and eventually freed her.

When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles.

She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, and nudged them, pushed gently around-she thanked them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lifes.

The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.

May you, and those you love, be so blessed and fortunate.....to be surrounded by people

who will help you get untangled

from the things that are binding you.

And, may you always know the joy

of giving and receiving gratitude.

I pass this on to you, my friends and fellow bloggers, in the same spirit.

May all of you have a most wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving...full of thanks and hope, and PEACE..........Love, Vicci

My Christmas Card

This is what I've been doing most of the day....I did not go to the store.....I did not clean the house.....I did not make a list like I had planned to do....I did not get dressed (I'm still in my jammies)....I did not call anyone (like I was supposed to)....I did not rake the yard....I did not take photos of my quilts...(like I said I would do and post)....I did not look for the cookie molds (in a different closet) like I had planned on doing.....I spent most of the day making this Christmas card (I made the wings using H2O's)...and walked around the house DAY DREAMING......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some more Christmas magnets

The Cookie Monster

No-Bake Gingersnap Balls

20 gingersnap cookies (about 5 oz.)
3 Tablespoons dark corn syrup
2 Tablespoons creamy peanut butter
1/3 cup powdered sugar
Place cookies in large resealable plastic food storage bag; crush finely with rolling pin or meat mallet.
Combine corn syrup and peanut butter in medium bowl. Add crushed gingersnaps; mix well. (mixture should hold together without being sticky. If mixture is too dry, stir in additional 1 or 2 Tablespoons corn syrup.)
Shape mixture into 24 (1-inch) balls; roll in powdered sugar. Makes 2 dozen cookies.
NOTE: Some gingersnaps are crisper than others, so you might need to add an extra 1 to 2 Tab. of corn syrup to the crumb mixture in order to hold together.
***********************************************************
People have asked me what I do with all these cookies!!!!!! Some of them I freeze...(which I will write about soon) and others disappear so fast! Family and friends are in and out of this house all the time...cookies do not and I repeat....DO NOT last long around here....at Christmas I put trays of all different kinds of cookies out...and everyone gets to take a tray home. PLUS....I LOVE COOKIES!!!! they have always been my favorite...I have been known to eat a few!
(I am careful about how many I eat...really!)

Collage on Canvas

This is a collage I did for my friend...I used acrylic and lumiere paint on the background, and the "masking-tape" technique...when the masking tape is peeled off in layers it leaves a subtle image of your choosing on the background. I cut out the images I wanted and collaged them...the images of the flowers and birds are from some of the many cards I've saved over the years...I then used ink and chalk to enhance the colors where I wanted. I really enjoyed doing this piece...especially working with the larger canvas. The quote is from an old book, and was chosen especially for my friend to give it special meaning.
