A Little Bit of Yesterday.......
Here are the cabinet cards I found yesterday...I love this one...what a fine looking couple! On the back of this one is written..."I was 32 yrs. old"....I love looking at these cards...I always wonder about these people's lives....I especially love the baby cards...Do you ever wonder why these people never smiled??????

They didn't smile because they had to hold 100% still for close to a minute - depending on light. Stand in front of a mirror and watch your face trying to hold a smile perfectly still for that long. Really had. They smiled when the time was up, I'll bet.

They didn't smile because it wasn't socially acceptable. A grinning person was considered drunk, insane or sexually suggestive. Also, before photography, there were paintings and drawings. People didn't smile while having their portrait painted, so when cameras were introduced, it wasn't a natural response to smile while having their picture taken. My question, is why do we smile in photos? When did we start doing that and who ta
ught us?
