The "Mojito" Recipe
The Mojito is sort of a distant cousin to the traditional American mint julep. It is the classic cocktail in Cuba. It's really worth trying...refreshing as a lemonade, but with a kick, it's the perfect drink for a long summer day....
21/2 oz. light rum (I think dark would work also)
1 lime
1 tbsp. simple syrup (sugar and water)
mint leaves ( 8 or so sprigs)
ice
club soda
tall glass
back of a wooden spoon can be used to mash the mint leaves
Make the simple syrup. Heat equal parts sugar and water to just until it starts to boil. Stir, and make sure the sugar is dissolved. Cool .
Place the mint leaves and 1 tbsp. of the simple syrup in the tall glass...then squish it all around with a wooden spoon until you can smell that good minty smell.
Cut the lime in half. Squeeze the juice out from both halves into the glass, then drop one half into the glass.
Pour in the rum and stir.
Add plenty of ice, then top off the mixture with club soda. Garnish with a sprig of mint and ENJOY!!!!!!
PS....These could be addicting on a hot Summer day...lookout!

Vicci, the flowers in the photo on my website are dahlias. In allotments in England, I don't know whether you have allotments, they are large patches of ground which are divided up into equal portions, and each portion is someone's patch of ground for growing things. Most people use their allotments for vegetables and some flowers. A traditional allotment flower is the dahlia, people compete to grow the best. Love Daisy Lupin xx
